Explanation of Phone Card Terms and Fees
Phone card
manufacturers set certain fees and conditions for their
products. As ZSComm is not a manufacturer of calling cards we do
not have any control over such fees and terms. We list all of
the provided information specifically on our website.
Common terms and fees;
Connection Fee: A certain set fee that is charged
immediately for connecting the call. Most phone cards in the
market do not use a connection fee anymore.
Rounding/Minute Increments: Usually
the amount of additional minutes that are charged for the last
minute talked. A 3 minute rounding card for example will add 3
minutes to the last talked minute, so a 10 minute call will be
counted as 13 minutes.
Maintenance Fee: A very common fee,
that almost all phone cards charge. Usually fees are per week or
every two weeks, and range from 39 to 99 cents. The fee is
usually charged at the end of first completed call. If you have
purchased a $5 card, and used $3 of balance for your initial
call, you will be charged the maintenance fee and it will be
taken off from the remaining $2 balance.
Service fee / tax: Another common
fee. Usually a percentage of the talked minutes and charged
after each completed call. For example a phone card that has a
15% of service/tax fee, will charge additional 15% of minutes
for the last completed call. If the person talked for 100
minutes, 15 minutes will be charged as well.
Post call fee: Not common, but a
fee charged at the end of each completed call, and taken off
from the remaining balance of the phone card.
Payphone surcharge: Every phone
card has the payphone fee. If you use the calling card from a
payphone expect to pay $1 or more per call. The fee will be
charged immediately to the balance of the calling card when the
call is connected.
Toll free access fee: Most phone
cards that offer local access numbers will charge 1 or 2 cents
extra per minute when the toll free access number is used
instead of local access numbers.
Expiration: Most phone card will
expire within three or six months after first use.
For more questions please contact the customer service of the
phone cards, the contact toll free numbers can be found on the
phone card pages.
